Music Sector Survey / Kyambogo University

Kampala, Uganda
March-June 2010

The Kyambogo Music Sector Survey will involve a of number undergraduate students of Kyambogo University Music Department. The students will be working together with Jackson Oboth of J&J Media Consultants to collect and edit material on the Ugandan musicsector for publication from march until may 2010.

Jackson Oboth is a well-experienced entertainment journalist and while he will be guiding the students on how best to present their findings, he will also be training them on how to develop a research strategy, examine information and follow a line of investigation.

Therefore, apart from realizing a website database, this project will develop writing and research skills among Kyambogo University students.

The project also have the ambition to answer part of the concern that artists have about music journalists who “writes about music but know nothing about it” and in the end report unconstructively. Therefore project activities also aim at producing knowledgeable future reporters on the music sector.

The Music Sector Survey has partly been done during 2009 and some information has been published on the Selam website. However, there are still many aspects of the music sector, which were not covered by the Survey.
This continuation is aimed at covering the remaining aspects of the Uganda Music Sector in order to present a complete picture in accordance with the outline produced in 2009.

The work of the students will be available on this site as pdf files, in due time as they are being produced.
